Gunther Uecker (Wendhorf, 1930) carried out his first artistic studies in Wismar and at the Academy of Berlin-Weissensse. His works are closely linked to physical and manual actions, often with acts of violence or using materials like ash, wood, nails and stone. They become kinds of physical-material formations, which create powerful metaphors that we find in our cultural history, in rituals and in the activity of worship; they present themselves in direct confrontation with the viewer as evidence of work, of an action, and create links directed at developing a new empathy towards symbolic forms and particular realities. His activity of installation and performance is of great importance. He has also experimented in the context of kinetic art.
